Covered Bridge – West Montrose

covered bridge.jpg

I lived in Waterloo County until I was sixteen. My mother is a direct descendent of Samuel Bricker, one of the original Mennonite settlers who came from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to farm the fertile land drained by the Grand River. I loved the history and the scenery of my home turf. This covered bridge is quite a tourist attraction and is sometimes called the “Kissing Bridge”. I found an antique calendar with a photo that I used as a reference for this sketch. I normally don’t use other people’s photos but I loved that bridge so much and was unable to get to the Kitchener area to do an on the spot drawing session. I wanted to share it with you and hope you will travel there to see for yourself what the scenery is like in Mennonite country. – Jenny
